"Salmon Run" DOF? Composition? Signature?

This is my first critique, so please be gentle


This is a shot I took of this sculpture.

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/320)
Aperture: f/4.5
Focal Length: 50 mm
Exposure: +1.50
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

My main concern with this photo is the DOF and composition. Is the background too blurry? Is too much of the photo out of focus? I like the shot, but it starts to hurt my eyes if I stare at it too long. What do you guys think?

Also, I just started framing and putting my "signature" in the bottom corner of my prints. What do you think of the signature's text size? Should it be bigger?

Yes, the background is too blurred for my taste. To be honest, this does not do anything for me. I can't even make out whatever it is.
