Default Fast car!

Shot this at mid-afternoon. It was a long way off, enough time to adjust settings.

EXIF
Camera: Nikon D60
Exposure: 1/30
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 45 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off

was the shutter speed too fast? should I have zoomed in more? was the panning correct?

This is my first shot trying panning, so any comment would be great.

I would judge this photo to be a touch underexposed, so a slightly slower shutter speed could have helped from that perspective if nothing else. For a more dramatic panning effect you would need to roll it down a few notches beyond that and compensate by stopping down the aperture.

Ideally a panning shot freezes the main subject, whereas the black car shows a bit of camera shake. To get a really good result you probably need to fire off quite a few attempts. It might also be easier if the target is travelling parallel to you rather than at an angle, which requires a more complex movement to follow it.

I think it needs a bit faster shutter speed. 1/60 perhaps, as the black car is still blurred..
