Default Grass in the sun

Hi

I'm very new to photography - this is only my second week since I started taking shots, so I'm still a bit shaky on what everything does. I've done a little bit of post processing as the colours was too faded (changed the histogram on my pc) - is this an indication that I'm over exposing my photos?

Also I'm not sure if there is too "much" grass in the composition - I like the different textures and the way it shows up against the dark fence, but would it be better without so much grass on the right hand side where its all in the same direction? (there is a cropped version on my flickr site)

Then lastly, when I went looking for things to photograph I was wearing my sunglasses. They're slightly red-brown tinted and it makes greens look greener and yellows/browns look browner/redder and from my point of view more interresting. I've managed to bring the green out a little by changing the contrast, but I cannot find a filter that would "immitate" my sunglasses - any ideas what I should be looking for?

I think it would be interesting if you got in a little closer. I found this on Flickr as an example.

Thanks for the thought, TokyoTom. I see what you mean, especially on the medium sized photo you can't really see the different textures. I'll go back and see if I can get some of the grass closeup while still keeping the contrast against the dark fence in the background.

I can't remember if it's a neutral density filter or a circular polarizing filter that will "mimic" what you see through your sunglasses. Alternately, if you like the look, try shooting through your sunglass lenses. I've had some neat shots that way.

I think you're over exposing - putting sunglasses in front should step you down about a stop, and that might help. (So would a ND filter.) Alternatively, you could step down a stop and see what you think. Also, bracketing might help - it will (depending on your camera) take 3 shots at different exposure or WB levels etc. Usually exposure is in +/- .3 exposure value increments (mine goes up to +/- 1.0 in 1/3 steps I think). That way you can keep your best exposed image.

Hope this helps. (Advise from a newbie.)

Thanks suprspi, that sounds exactly like what I need. Funily enough I discovered the bracketing function on Sunday and had great fun with it. I did consider using my sunglasses as a filter, but they're prescription which will almost certainly skew the picture. Worth a try for something more abstract though, so I'll keep it in mind, thanks!

Beatriz, I absolutely agree, more wood would have been nice, unfortunately the fence ended. I guess I could do that PP. I'll play with it and see what happens. Thanks for looking and commenting.
