Default Paper Stars

paper stars

Camera: Sony DSLR-A200
Exposure: 0.05 sec (1/20)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 55 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

How can I make this idea better? Does this photo seem too busy? Should I have zoomed it out a little to show more of the surface of the table?

Thanks!!

No, I wouldn't have zoomed out. I think your focal length is good where it is. Or, you could have even zoomed in a little more.

The objects in the upper and lower right-hand corners draw my attention away from your subject. You could crop or clone out the object in the lower right-hand corner. But, the object in the upper right-hand corner could be moved altogether.

Just my thoughts. I like the idea behind this photo, though. Nice job.

my thought on this is that u r focusing on stars in the middle with things on a continuous distance. that means shallow depth of field will be hard to compose well because its hard to tell what exactly is the focus. if you separated the stars from the strips a bit so the strips were clearly blurred and not sort of encroaching on the focused distance, it might make it more clear what the main subject is and offer less cluttering feel. this is just a hypothesis btw.
