Arrow One Not so Icy Snow Man!!

Hi DPS folks!!

Firstly I would like to thank DPS for doing such a wonderful job and all the users who take time to write articles and suggest on improving our photography skills!! One thing that never stops is the urge of a human brain to learn!! so great job everyone!!

Coming to my shot, I just got my Canon Rebel XS about a month ago and ever since been playing around, the below picutre is of a Soap Dispenser I got as a gift when playing white elephant!! (yeah someone did not want it in their home so they gave it away lol )

Having just for my camera a month ago, I did not think of a tripod or different lights, just used my Flash Light focused on the subject EXIF information below. Please do let me know how I did on this!! Thanks every one.

Hi..

congrats on your new cam..

as for this photo.. really creative subject and it's been well captured.

maybe could just focus the flash a teeny weeny bit higher to light up his face n hat a bit more..

otherwise, i like this pic.. a lot..

great start here at DPS. look forward to seeing more of your work.

Agreed. By having the flash light shine mainly on the middle of the snow man, the eye is drawn mainly to the its middle, not its face.

Not that this shot seems to need it, but using something like a paper napkin or towel can help diffuse the light a bit.

And finally, if you set up the flashlight just a bit to the side, you likely could've created some interesting shadows that provide some depth.

I would suggest croping out un-needed negative space, since the snow man is facing to the camera, I feel this black negative space distracting.

Maybe a square crop!
