Hello all,
i was out at the museum here, and had a mini photo-shoot with this piece. this is what i came up with. please forgive the difficult museum light - it made focusing difficult, and auto focus was useless. the material and sharp angles on the surface makes the light seem harsher than it was. what id like to know is: 1) was the depth of field a good choice? 2) can fill flash, or slow sync flash (is that the right term) help? 3) other comments on composition and exposure are appreciated ![]() Nikon D60 50mm f1.4 1/40sec ISO 100 Thank you all! |

Not bead shot and i can see what you try to achieve with your composition. It looks like your focus went to the wing of the statue. 50 mm f/1.4 is a great lens in low light conditions, but some times it needs change from f/1.4 to maybe f/1.8 or f/2 to bring the "right" focus. If you have a chance, try same more shots with the same setting and then adjust your f.. till you get the required effect. Try bring the face of the statue in focus first and then adjusting your DOF you will see what it is sharp and in focus with different DOF (head, hand, wings...). Your original shot of the statue is sharp and looks good. Hope it helps in some way

thanks wombat. i see what you mean about the focus, i hadnt noticed that the wing was much more in focus than the face. ill keep that in mind if i ever go back to the museum to see this piece.
yazz PS the original shot is from a website describing the piece and not my own |
