Default Hyde Park @ night

Took this photo of a little corner in Hyde Park (Sydney) last night.

Camera: Canon PowerShot S3 IS
Shooting mode: Tv
Shutter Speed: 6"
Appreture: F2.7

Very little PP has been done. Adjusted the tilt, cropped the image and burned a little of the too bright light in the middle part of the image.

I've only been taking photos for the past several months and am still learning some basics
Is the composition good?
Is it acceptable to have the lights so bright or is too distracting?
What should I keep in mind next time I take shots like this one?

Any other advice or feedback is welcome.

Thanks

I think you did a really good job with this. Good composition and good exposure. I like it.

if your not using one already invest in a tripod, will help a lot especially wtih evening shots.

great composition although personally i dont like how it goes from bright on bottom to dark on top. i am not sure how you would combat that. It just feels very distracting.
