the upper left being blown out detracts from the photo, and so does the narrow depth of field (but that just might be personal preference) you could try for a narrower depth of field if you were just trying to bring the attention the the "Bassman" part of the amp
p.s. As I am a guitarist myself, give your husband commendation from me on owning such a legendary piece of guitar amplification.

I'm not sure what specific feedback you're looking for. But, even though I don't really know enough yet to critique, I'll give it a try. I have two observations:
1. The white balance is off. The upper left side of the picture is blown out. 2. I like that you took the shot from an angle to give it more interest. However, the composition doesn't do much for me. I can't put my finger on it. I don't know if it's the angle, how tightly the image is cropped, or what. But, I would try it again from different perspectives. Perhaps closer, or farther away. Maybe with something else behind it even. By the way, I love that it's in black and white. I think that was a very appropriate choice. I hope you don't find my comments to be overly negative. I admire your courage to post a photo and ask for critique. I've only mustered enough courage to do that once or twice myself. |

Do you have the exif info you could share with us? Might be helpful to understand why some areas are overexposed

you dont have to search memory cards, in fact that wont help at all. If you have them saved on your pc, you can right click and then click on properties and it will show what settings you had your camera on. or your processing software will also do the same thing and can usually be found under image information.
Some web sites such as flickr also retain that information for you. The amp is a nice shot, just a bit overexposed on the one end and to me anyway takes your eyes to the bright light instead of the main subject. The angle you chose is brilliant! The good ol 80's. funny I dont remember them. lol

phishlady,
You may want to try playing around with some effects on the amp shot. It might look cool with some extra grain or something added in. Also, it's nice to see a fellow Iowan on the board. I'm originally from Delhi, so I was in CR a lot when I was a kid.
