There has been suggestions that I should have a bite of the choc first... so in another try, another version, another chocolate, here's what I got...

I am not so sure I like the bite marks. Your never quite sure *what* exactly ate it .

I DO love Toblerone! But I like the Cadbury Fruit and Nut more, so my preference was for the first one! hehe. I love the idea though. Your making me want to go on a candy bar run!

I am wondering (particularly in the Toblerone shot) if it may be more of an issue of lighting than with product placement (or whether or not it is partially eaten ). The chocolate looks mostly flat in this one. The exception is the bite mark which has a little shine to it.

It appears as though you are going for the low key effect. The Toblerone shot looks as though the light is coming from straight on and maybe slightly below the chocolate.

Taking special care to rim light or silhouette the object may add more of a sense of drama and appeal to the chocolate. You know... giving it that seductive "come hither.. you know you want a bite appeal."

Of course we won't get shots like these in our home "studios" (well at least most of us mere photo mortals won't) but these are some good examples of how to make food look amazing. I like to try to emulate it.

The chocolate all has that wet, shinny, you could almost reach in taste it kind of look.

I am not sure how many sources of light you are using (I would recommend two or more), but you could try exploring the differences with front lit, side lit, top lit, back lit etc. See which combinations work best and if any of them cause the chocolate to "pop" a little more. Shades and colored reflectors can also be used to control light and add some color to the rim lights.

I find photographing chocolates (and other heat sensitive foods) generally works best when its straight of the fridge. It seems to have a little more reflective property and waxiness than it does as it warms and begins to look gooey.

1- thanks cuchulainn for dropping by.
2- thanks again for a more comprehensive reply
3- thanks again again for that link - THAT kinda shots made my mouth water....

I agree with you that we're (most of us) non-pro photographers who would try to make do with any available material around the house. I understood what you mean,
- the bite mark may not always necessary makes it as the X factor.
- the flash used; I was only using the in built flash
- the flatness of the choc; perhaps different shape from the Cadbury's bar...

I will try more shots of these with the given tips and thanks again.
