Default Knowledge - from this weekend's Sculpture Walk outing

I'm not sure where the right forum for sculptures would be, so I thought I'd go here.

Knowledge

My main question is on composition and focus - is it composed well, did the focus I chose work?

EXIF:
f/2.5
50mm
ISO: 400
No flash

I think the balance of the composition doesn't quite sit well. The subject seems too pushed towards the bottom left (the space round the top and right doesn't seem to have any particular message) and the large out of focus hand is distracting.

Is it another view of this sculpture? I prefer that shot of yours, where the subject and what it is doing are more obvious and the background contains variation that gives depth to the result.

Thanks, Wulf. That makes sense. I was kind of going for the idea of her hiding in the knowledge that she was reading - sort of a "secret knowledge" sort of thing, but obviously that didn't work!

I think I do prefer the other shot as well now that I look at them more. Thanks again!
