    Default Speaking stones

I felt this was a very good shot
    Gossip
Until of course after posting it in SYS- Other, I got 582 views but 0 comments. Then someone said:"What may be a great shot to you, may just be so-so to others so many times they will look and be on thier merry way."
So posting it here for all your views. I want to know what is wrong with the image, why is it so ordinary that it does not even evoke a simple "Nice shot"

P.S: This I am taking as a learning for myself, coz like most amateurs I also love most of my shots...so just wanted to know where I should improve to bring in that "Wow" factor.

    Exif:

    Camera:Canon 1000d
    Lens:50mm prime
    Aperture:1.8
    Iso:100
    Shutter speed:1/2000s

My take is that you've pushed the contrast so hard that it is difficult to see the subject. Also, I think you could benefit by a tighter crop that also moves the primary subject out of dead center.

I agree that the contrast is too high and that you could get a better result simply by adjusting your crop to shift attention away from the center of the photo. I think I like the right side of the image better as a background, so perhaps you'll want to crop the left side of the image and get rid of some of the out of focus stones.

Don't be too surprised by lots of views and no comments. I posted an image called
"moody skies" once, over 1300 (!) views but not one comment. That's the way it goes at DPS sometimes, no reflection on the shot. I agree with the other comments...move the subject left or right of center, would also follow the rule of thirds that way.
It doesn't matter how many you shoot. It matters how many you keep.

I also believe that people are very hesitant to post any type of suggestion or critique-like comment on SYS shots. If an image can't be summed up with "Wow! Great shot!" or "I love the [this] and [that]," then a lot of people will avoid commenting. It's rather unfortunate, because there are good things about photos like this (and I'm sure "Moody Skies" had great aspects as well) that deserve mention.
