Default Focus help!

I like the idea of this photo, to have the fence in focus but my horse out of focus. But i dont think i achieved my goal. Anything i could have changed in regards to settings or composition??

You could've changed the aperture. Shooting at f/3.1, you have a very narrow DOF. You need to use a smaller aperture (bigger numbers).

That's what you've got now. You have the post in focus and your horse out of focus. What exactly are you trying to do?

I understand what you were going for...
The problem is the fence post is too prominent and the OOF horse is too minor, plus the "busy" background.
If the horse was larger/closer (around second post) and isolated against an all white BG it would be much better.

Alternatively, you could just step back some and zoom in. This will reduce the size of the post relative to the size of the horse.

Compose with your feet; crop with your zoom.

or if u dont wanna do that u can take 2 pics, one with the fence focused, one with the horse focused without the fence and do focus stacking in ps, i know that the idea is to get it right in pics without needing ost procesing to get the results, but it is an option
