Default Into the Belly of the Beast

January 3, 2012
Camera: Canon 5D mk2
Exposure: 1 second
Aperture: f/4
Focal Length: 50mm
ISO Speed: ..3200...
Model: Wet and cold

I would have put this in the 'People' section, but its really not about the person. The person gives it scale and context. I have the almost exact photo without and while mysterious, this seems to have more impact. I wanted to create a photo with impact that catches your eye and depth to keep you looking at it for awhile. I was aiming for something dark and.. Adventurous! This place really is a lost beauty.

I've considered darkening the person to near silhouette, but haven't tried it yet. That may help make him less distracting.

Also, please forgive the ISO. Longer exposure times make the reflection blurry, due to it being running water aswell as the poor sap who has to stand their for 15 seconds very still. I am surprised however by the little amount of noise.

What do you think of the lighting (..Two flashlights...), composition, and/or the way I have portrayed the subject? Do you think it would be better with just a silhouette of the person? Do you think the picture has impact or depth? Any other ways I could have improved it? (During the shot or post)

I am always trying to improve so all comments and critique welcome! Tell me what you think! Thanks!

Love the lighting and texture ... I could do without the backpack and maybe different clothes to make the figure more mysterious ... overall a really nice shot, very different ...

Thanks crockny, Thanks for the feedback.

Its actually in the 'drainage tunnels' under the city. I do a fair bit of urban exploration and it also happens to be an interesting place for photography.

I like it too... very dramatic. There's a sense of danger in the picture.
