Wasn't sure exactly where to put this, so my apologies if it's in the wrong place.

It was taken with a cheap point-and-shoot some time ago.
It's heavily cropped from a larger image and made using a mask layer in Photoshop.
I suppose my question is one about composition and post technique - Was the masking worth the effort? - That is, does it add to/ improve the image or did I waste my time on an image that was not really worth bothering with in the first place?
