Default A Quiet Place

Hello,

This is my first attempt at B & W... Not sure if some areas are to dark or if the idea just did not work. I liked how the path seemed to say welcome. Not sure if that was conveyed..Does the path lead the viewer into the photo? Also wondering about the composition overall. Is it just a ho-hum image? Would appreciate any CC. I am all ears

So, the vibe I get is more of a "Welcome to the Church of Doooooom!!!" kind of thing.

Dark clouds, leafless trees, dark windows ... it's straight from the opening scene of a horror movie or murder mystery.

Now, all that said, I like it as a moody B&W image. The composition works for me; the details are interesting, the focus seems nice and sharp. It's just not the image I understood you to be describing as your goal.

I agree with the above poster about the mood of the shot, which I like BTW!

Regarding the composition I also think it is nice and this is a photo I would be proud to call my own

I would perhaps move the house away from black a little and into the midtone grays to accentuate its texture better, or you could play with contrast on the house itself. It might take away some of the fantastic gloominess in this shot however. It is a tough call. I like the photo

Thank you Doug & lerabu for you advice and comments regarding my image. Good thing I did not go darker on the sky. Still trying to learn how to do some things with my software but I am going to take the advice given to try and improve on the image. It is a good feeling when someone tells you they like your image Thank you!

Cheers

I love the sky! I'd like, as others said, a little more contrast in the house and especially brighten up the fence a little as a balance to the sky and as a drawing line (even tho it goes out a bit at the top). The path is a little monochrome with the grass to be leading - perhaps that can change. I'd lighten up some of those higher mid-tones and see what happens.
