Default Bench Writing

Hey This is my first time posting on DPS, anyways wanted to get some opinions on this photo I took yesterday. I've been trying to improve my shots since I'm now involved in a 365 day project.

The shot specifications are:
Canon EOS rebel XS
Lens - 18-55mm
Focal length - 35 mm
ISO - 400
Aperature - 5.6
Shutter Speed - 1/100
No flash
White balance - Cloudy

Post processing I played with the curves/levels very slighty since the original shot looked good in my opinion.

Really just looking for any critique.

Welcome to DPS. I hope you get as much out of this site as I have.

I like the composition of the diaginal lines across the frame and the placing of the writing in the right lower third (barely). I can see the texture in the wood.

For me, this is just ok. It doesn't speak to me or make me wonder "who wrote that and why".

In the future, you may get a better response with specific questions. Keep on shooting and posting!

Hey thanks for the comment! Yeah I found DPS while searching for tutorials on moon photography haha.

Anyways i'm still messing around with framing/composition, definitely takes some time to see the "picture".

In response to the "okay" comment, is there something I should do to try to improve the shot to make it speak? I figure try the shot from different angles, maybe make the writing the main subject in the photo by getting in closer?

Like this picture I have others that I'm trying to figure out why they "pop" while others seem to be bland.

Thanks again

I think the shot fairly interesting but my own personal observation: I am more interested in the fasteners/bolts and the associated weathering than the graffito. The writing just isn't that interesting to me personally so my eye wanders up the diagonals to the OOF hardware looking for more detail.
