Default New to photography,,,suggestions, help, etc.

Picked up photography in Afghanistan this year, got back and picked up a Nikon D3000 and started shooting. A friend of mine who has been doing it for a while pointed me in the right direction, and now I'm trying to make something out of this hobby. Any and all suggestions and criticisms are greatly appreciated.

Welcome to DPS. A couple of suggestions to make your experience here at DPS more fruitful: it's better to post pictures, rather than a link, and you need to follow the Critique Forum Rules-- you'll get a lot more feedback on your pictures if you do that.

Thanks, probably should've read that before jumping on here. It said to include information like EXIF info, I don't actually know what that is?

It is the settings you had in your camera when you took the photograph: f/stop, shutter speed, ISO number, things like that. It makes it a lot easier to know why something is happening, when you can look at the EXIF data.

Is there any way to find that information after I take the picture and have it on my computer?

You can easily find it on Flickr For example, here is your EXIF from the picture you linked to: Exif | CSC_0143 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

We ask that you at least post the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO, maybe the lens / camera, maybe whether or not you used a flash, possibly the exposure mode (so we know if it's auto / aperture priority / shutter priority / manual), and any anything you think might be relevant. I've posted an example of what we typically look for in your post.

You can get to it from any of your pictures by clicking on the "Actions" button and then selecting "View EXIF"

I take it from my Flicker page. When you open your picture, there are two arrows on top of the image: you click on the one that says actions, and from the drop down menu you click on View Exif info, and there you have it.
