Default Old fashioned nautical/fishing setup

Terrible title, but I don't really know how to describe this photo. I took it for my mother who is redoing my brother's old room in a nautical and fishing theme. My dad owns an old fashioned slalom waterski and old fishing pole/reel that she wanted a picture of in front of an old dock or something. I found an old boathouse and set the ski and pole up there. I couldn't get even with the boat house because I had to stand in the lake so the image isn't overly straight.

But I want to know what people think of the composition, the positioning of the ski and pole, the editing, whatever you feel like commenting on.

Camera Nikon D3100
Exposure 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture f/8.0
Focal Length 28 mm
Focal Length 28.3 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash No Flash
X-Resolution 300 dpi
Y-Resolution 300 dpi
Orientation Horizontal (normal)

I ended up editing 7 different images to try to choose from, but the one on here was my favorite, but feel free to view the rest and comment on if any of them are better, I have the set on my Flickr.

I think the ski looks good, like it would naturally be put there when it is done being used. The fishing pole looks like it was put there as a prop. It would have looked better next to the ski.

Thanks, I didn't really know what to do with the fishing pole, I didn't really want to use it, but my mom bought my camera, so if she wants it in a photo, she gets it.

With the color contrast and such, I wonder how it would look in B&W? Check flea markets for old fishing gear. You might find some other cool stuff to decorate with..

I like the composition but at a glance it looks like it might be hard to get a frame/mat for it unless it has been cropped down a bit.

I have my own matting equipment, but I did crop it to some standard size I believe. I can't really remember what size I used, I played around with quite a few. 8x13 maybe.

But the B&W is a good idea, I'll look into it.
