Default Moon rise

Hi all, hoping this belongs in this forum.

A photo I took last night from my balcony (have been playing around with the new lens... figured I should put it to use)... Lightroom 3 editing just to get rid of some of the shadow and make the craters pop a little bit more and centre it.

Moon rise

Camera Nikon D3100
Exposure 0.033 sec (1/30)
Aperture f/5.6
Focal Length 300 mm
ISO Speed 200
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash No Flash
Lens 55.0-300.0 mm f/4.5-5.6

So... how is the composition? I'm pretty happy overall, but wondering if it's just a little bit too boring? I was debating whether to keep it clean or add a bit of grain to it, so went more on the clean side.

Any critique would be great

Dacho

The problem with shooting the moon is it is much brighter than and faster than we think. You have good detail on the bottom right hand side but the top is a little overexposed. Your aperture is about right but try going a stop or so higher with a much faster shutter speed. Say 1/1000 of a second?

It sounds like a lot but that is a good place to start when shooting the moon. Check out your exposure after each set of shots and adjust from there.

The composition is good and I think you made the right choice for the clean vs. grainy.
