Default The water is falling

I was experimanting with long shutter speeds hand hold, and this is what came out jacki97's deviantART gallery I am wondering if the rest of the picture is sharp enough and if it is to bright.

Camera:Canon EOS 550D
Shutter Speed:1/2 second
Aperture:F/25.0
Focal Length:28 mm
ISO Speed:100
Lens:EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

Thanks in advance

Jackvahnber,

Once again, another great image. I love the blur of the waterfall. The composition is really good. Although personally, I might have cropped it in about an inch on the right side, just because there's there's such a bright spot there that it detracts some attention from the waterfall. You might want to take the exposure down just a hair, just so the bright spots in the image aren't hard on the eyes. But only a little bit, because the rest of the image looks really good.

I'd also like to say that at 28mm focal length, handheld, at half a second shutter speed, the rest of the image turned out pretty sharp. You must have some pretty steady hands.

The only thing that I really might change about the DOF, is I'd either want the trees in the background sharper, to add overall detail to the image, or more out of focus so they aren't noticed. Because "and this is just my personal opinion" it feels like the trees are kind of just at an awkward blur, where it doesn't really add or detract anything from the image. I hope I was able to explain that well enough for somebody to read and understand lol. But like I said, that's just me.

Overall, I really like this image. I think it was very well done and I can't wait to see what you have for us next.

Were you going for something that was somewhat realistic or were you going for a more abstract/stylized feel? Since you posted this in the "other" category, and not in the landscape, it's difficult to know how to critique this.

As a natural/landscape shot it doesn't work for me, because of how blown out the image is. You've lost all detail in several spots on the water, the sky, and in the leaves and grass. It leaves me squinting, like I'm actually looking at the sun reflecting off the water.

If you were going for something a bit edgier, I think you've achieved it. The aforementioned lighting issue works to give an abrasive quality to the image that's quite different from what you see in most landscape shots like this.

It's hard to tell at this size, but for hand-held, at 1/2 second exposure, the shot is remarkably sharp.

I tryed the croping and it turnd out nive, but I don't know if it gave anything to the image, just my opinon. You're right about the exposure, but i can't take it down That much becous it takes away the "feel" that I tryed to get. I'll try to get the DOF right nex time, and the i'll probubly have a tripod with me

You are completely right. When i was standing there I relised that i couldn't get a good lanscape picture with the condisions, so I tryed to get a more abstract picture. I'm quit happy with the feel i got

Thankfully Jack
