Default Single Flower

Couldn't resist taking this picture with the sun shining on it. I took this in the very late afternoon.and the red was just glowing which I tried captured . (1) Was I able to capture the lighting properly? (2) Did I compose the shot well enough? (4) Does the DOF fit this image without too much being out of focus that it detracts from the subject?

Prairie Wildfire

Kodak Z981
Shutter: 1/100
Manual
Aperture: f 4.0
Focal Length: 14.70mm
ISO 64
Daylight\

I do not have a tripod so I tried propping the camera on the back of a chair. (Will eventually get a tripod). Is the flower sharp enough??

Thanks,
Faith

I like the composition; I would've liked the flower a little sharper and the background a little more out of focus. There's also a very bright spot on the top of the frame that kind of makes my eyes wonder away from the flower.

I wondered about that light at the top of the picture, but couldn't figure a way to crop it out and couldn't move the flower. Thank you for your comments.

This is just an idea as to what you can do with your background: bring the saturation down a notch, darken it a bit and blur it. That will eliminate the distracting bright spot on top of the frame; don't let any of the adjustment affect the flower, though. Then, if you want, you can sharpen the flower a little after you're done with the background. Hope it helps a bit.
