mjbpics,
First of all, I'd like to say that this is pretty good image. I'm curious about the setup though. The background is obviously flat, but the flowers are not. Is the dinosaur a separate object of it's own as well?
Now to what you were asking:
The composure of the shot is well done. You usually want to avoid placing your subject in the center of the frame because it doesn't make for a very interesting shot, but being that you're trying to somewhat hide the dinosaur, I think it worked out very well.
I believe that the front plant is just fine the way it is. I know that you're trying to give the sense of the dinosaur being hidden, but if that plant was sharp I think that it would completely detract from the dinosaur. And unless you knew the dinosaur was there, you may not notice it. So I think your DOF is just right.
The only thing that I think could improve this image, is a slightly higher exposure time. But being that you're already working with a shutter speed as low as 1/10 at 50mm, I personally wouldn't go any slower. However, if you're shooting in Raw, the image data is already there so it wouldn't hurt to bump up the exposure in Photoshop or Lightroom a little bit. But as I said, that's just my opinion. The darker look may be what you were going for.
Overall: Great composure, Good DOF, and Pretty good lighting. I really like this image and I look forward to seeing more of your work. I hope that some of the things I said help you out atleast a little bit. But remember, photography is about how YOU see the world. Just because people tell you a picture should look a certain way, doesn't mean that they're right or wrong. It's all about how You, the photographer/artist believes that the scene should be portrayed.
Good luck in your future shots!
David
