Default Solitary flower

Hi

This was a shot I took a few days ago of a flower:jacki97 on deviantART
I really liked but i don't now if "blacking" out the backround was the right thing to do. Does it make the flower standout in a good way? Or is it just killing the picture?

I like the direction of this picture, but feel that the flower needs to be a bit sharper in focus to really stand-out.

Jackvahnberg,

First of all, I'd like to say that I really like this image. It's not the typical flower shot, and that worked very well for you. I do agree with Faith, I believe the image should be sharper. While it's best to do that while composing the shot, here's what a little bit of Photoshopping did.

Great image though! Keep on posting!

You're very welcome.

Yeah, manual focus comes easier with time and practice. For my Canon EOS 450d, I'll manual focus through the viewfinder, then I'll switch to the LCD viewer, and use the zoom button to focus in on the smaller details of whatever I'm taking a picture of, then I'll manual focus from there. This allows me to make sure that I'm getting the proper focus for my images. I believe the 550d is a step up from mine, so I'm sure you'd be able to do the same.

Look forward to seeing more of your work,
David
