This is a fantastic image and one you should be proud of frame and put on your wall as the bench mark for future work. The composition, edit, DOF are all spot on. Great work. I want to see more. 5/5, like, and favorite. ...
So i've been told the above about this image...I was wondering if the people here at DPS agreed?

Sorry, but I dont agree. The black and white is too flat, its all grey. When doing b&W's contrast is your friend. You need more light on your subject
Without knowing your camera settings (exif) I cant tell you why the subject is too soft but it is. It appears you were focusing on one small section of it.

AlyBear,

Personally, I agree with windrider86 for the most part. The image is a little too flat, which can happen if you're not use to converting photos to B&W. Lightroom has great presets for black and white photos that really bring out the contrast and give the image life. Of course everybody has their own way though, none of which are right or wrong. Its just how they believe the image should look. And that's what photography is really about; portraying the subject in your own creative way. As for the softness, you can use Photoshop to run a High Pass filter as an overlay and bring a little sharpness to it. But once again, maybe you're goal was for a softer looking image, I don't know.

Maybe if you gave us some information about your camera settings as well as a little background into what you were trying to achieve, we could give you a better critique.

I would like to say that I love the way you composed the shot though. While I'm definitely not an expert in photography, I do appreciate good composition when I see it. So overall, I do like the photo. It's easy on the eyes, while still interesting. A little more contrast "done properly" and I'd say it's great.

I'm sure there are those that would disagree with some of what I said, but that's just my 2 cents worth. I hope I was a little bit of help to you. Good luck in any and all future photos taken, you'll do just fine.

David
