Default Tunnel Vision-Good or Bad?

Camera: Canon Powershot sx130
Flash: No
Zoom: 8x
ISO Speed: 160
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)

-Was taken on "miniature setting"(Blurs top and bottom of the picture), good idea or not?-
Is there anything else I can do to make this a good shot?
Is it a good picture overall?
I just started taking pictures, so I would like any feedback, good or bad XD
Go for it!

I assume by "miniature stetting" they are referring to some kind of faux tilt-shift effect. It looks faked. I'd say not a good idea.

I couldn't tell you the subject of this photo. We have the bright bit of sky coming through the trees but there's nothing interesting going on there. It looks like there are some mountains beyond the treeline. They could be interesting, but they're too obscured.

The best advice I have for starting out is to have an intent every time you take a photo. Have a subject and try to convey something about that subject.

The only way to get a tilt shift look that actually looks real is to use a tilt shift lens. Anything else looks like crap.

if you have that setting in your camera, turn it off and chop off a finger each time you even think about turning it back on.

Same goes for digital zoom.
