Default surfboards

Looking at it more I would have liked to have the whole white surfboard in the shot but I'm not sure if that really takes away from it by having it cut off. I think what I love the most about this photo is the lighting and I think that really has to do with the time of day.The lens kept getting mist on it from the ocean which I think gave the photo a little haze.

1. Should I try this photo again with the whole surfboard in the shot?
2. Should I try and get the photo more crisp or is the haze a good effect?

I'm just learning about digital photography myself. Having used film before, I tended to economize on shots (film /processing was expensive). What I love about digital is that I can shoot, shoot, shoot. Learn to take every angle, exposure, clean or misty lens, etc you can think of. Then you won't wonder "if...."
As for the shot here, I think the horizon should be straightened. That to me is the most needed change.
Keep shooting!

looks desaturated and bland color, low contrast and not bright enough. you could try a slower shutter speed. with a 18mm lens you could go a lot lower than 1/400
