Default I took the cake . . .

. . . and we ate it too!

Is the composition okay for this food shot? This wasn't a set up, we were actually enjoying this cake with coffees at a beachfront bar. It almost looked too good to eat, but temptation . . .

Also, I added a little saturation which I feel is just about right, but does anyone think it's it too much? Any criticism at all gratefully received. Thanx in advance.

No professional here, but will lend a personal critique!

I am not fond of the shadow in the front of the cake a utensils. I wonder if a little off camera flash high camera left will solve some of it.

Otherwise...composition and colors look great to me!

Thanks Phil I appreciate your comments and I agree entirely about the shadow. Unfortunately I had no flash with me (only the pop-up which I wouldn't use) or reflector, but I thought the backlighting made part of the cake and topping glow somewhat which added some appeal.

Yes, you got a nice hair light on the topping. I like it composition wise except for the fork on the left. I think it should be sitting at about 9 o'clock or so. And the full size photo looks really yummy!

You should try to 3d it so that the cake is popping out of the frame. There is a thread somewhere in here about that using photoshop.

Search for Out Of Box or OOB. It was pretty cool what they accomplished.

Thank a lot Jim. I couldn't find the topic here, but I did on Google. Though it's a great effect it not really want I want for this shot. However, I re-processed it to make the cake pop more. I think it better. What say you or anyone else?
