1st attempt, please critiques are welcomed!

Again a good attempt, you have the subject in good focus, i would pay more attention to the background though right now there's a lot of clutter there and even though its OOF it can still create a distraction i like the POV used here and probably against a plainer background with some attention given to framing the edges this has the makings of a good image

it's not exactly bacon, but carrot! post-production spoiled a little and DOF also did not help

I submitted this picture uncropped and almost raw to get as many tips as I can before adopt a referential POV.

And I agree with your opinion. For a job or editorial/publishing I probably work harder on production (mainly background and secondary elements).

In regards to lighting what do you think?

Difficult to say looks ok to me right now, though i think before thinking of lighting it would be good to think of the final composition you are aiming for and then play around with how you want it lit...
