I've been looking at your photo for a while now trying to work out how you can improve it.
Its great that you didn't just take this horizontally as you've surely seen it. I think the main problem (for me) is that the lines are nice, yes, but not enough in themselves to hold my attention and so there is no focal point and not enough other interest in the photo. It you really want to bring this subject out, maybe try to get in even closer and show some of the texture - the bottom of the blind, maybe the bit of the wooden area where its not perfectly smooth, the fabric of the blind itself? I sometimes find something that looked really great when I first looked at it just doesn't quite translate to a photo the way I thought it should. Off course different people will react differently to things and these are my personal thoughts on the subject, so others may well disagree, but I hope it helps a little.

Have you tried fiddling with it in photoshop, perhaps a high contrast B&W image, or maybe a really high key shot by increasing the exposure and fading out the blacks?
I think this image works as a graphical piece and therefore any lost detail, or artificially enhanced detail, will add to the overall feel of the image. An accurate representation of what was there on the day just holds very little interest for me. Tom |
