Ok, I'll give it a go.
I think the out of focus almond adds to the depth of the photo. I think the balance of the photo wouldn't be quite so good without that almond, though whether it would look better with that almond also in focus I can't quite decide. The bright background may be a little distracting and yet fits with the feel of the photo. It reminds me of show house or a cooking show. I don't think its over exposed, but the almonds have a overly red tinge to them - I think its either slightly over saturated or your white balance is off if the container they're in is perfectly white. I can't really think of anything else to improve. If you've set out to take a show room kind of shot of almonds, I'd say you've succeeded very well.

The composition and focus are fine -- nice, actually.
The measuring cup ought to be white, but it has warm tinge (yellow/red/magenta). This isn't hard to fix in post processing, depending on what you program you have, as the measuring cup is white, and you can click on it with a white balance tool. IMO the background is distracting. The colors are more saturated and contrasty than the nuts themselves.
