I am new to the site and love the idea of getting feedback from people who also have a passion for photography.
The photo was taken with: Camera: Nikon D90 Shutter speed: 1/320 Aperture: f/9 ISO: 200 Focal length: 55 mm (55-200 zoom) I am wondering if I did my subject a disservice by using a shallow depth of field and converting the image to black and white. ![]() Feel free to critique any aspect of the image. |

im a beginner also, but just from looking at your pictures its a question of what you want to say: while the colour version looks yummy and makes me think of the smell of freshly smoked fish (mmhh
) the black and white has caused a bit of scare:; the salmon head in the foreground spiked on the wood looks dark and like an omen to me. so both are good but just have a different story - somehow.

Yeah, to me the color is much better. The only thing I would change would be to clone out the pole to the right. As for full photos, I use Flickr to post mine. From the Flickr page there is a "Share this" tab, click on that, select the "Grab the HTML/BBcode", select your size (740px on longest side) and click BBcode, copy the code and paste it in your post.

My thinking at the time of processing was that of giving the photo a more historical aspect type feel. My uncle smokes the salmon for all of our tribal gatherings and he prepares it as our ancestors always have -- splayed out on cedar stakes above a smoldering fire.
I do agree that the color image makes me hungry. ![]() I tried to remove the pole once with horrid results. I'll have to try again. Thanks again for your input on the shot. I never thought of the B&W as scary but now that I think about it I can definitely see that is is. I get an idea in my head and I can't see around it. Tammy |

I appreciate the colored version more than the B&W, i see more detail and DOF is observable, it is a neat shot, my suggestion is try to move around the subject and find other angle of attack which give more emphasized to the subject, work for much better composition.
