What type of exposure modes does your camera have? The focus could be because the aperature is too large making the DOF too deep or because you didn't give the camera enough time to focus correctly or from camera shake.
Keep practicing! Its the only way to learn. |

Thank you Physibeth, for the encouraging words... I have to check on the exposure modes, since all the camera lingo is really new to me, I am just use to turning the camera on a snapping a pic, it was until I started reading the Tips on here to try and experiment with things. I would just leave the camera in Auto mode, and sometimes I guess I would accidently change something. I did read a find the different settings I could use for example (Landscape, flowers, portraits, etc) on this shot I do believe i chose the flower mode.. I did zoom in and i probably did shake a lil.. next time I will try with my Tripod..

Hi Kaydee, firstly welcome to the forum, you will learn heaps here.
![]() If you read the forum rules for the critique section it will tell you what info you need to provide when asking for a critique, basically the EXIF data of the photo. This will tell us which settings you used - shutter speed, aperture, ISO etc, which will make it easier to advise you on what "went wrong" and how to fix it. Even if you had it on auto the camera will have selected these. If you look at your photo on Flickr, click on Actions just above it then click View EXIF Info, not only will it give you all the info you need but it will explain what EXIF is. In this case it looks like you were on Flower mode. How far away were you from the flower, physically - you may have been too close which is why the camera couldn't focus. Also your aperture is quite wide here, giving a shallow depth of field. Trying closing the aperture to about f10 (as a rough guide) to increase your depth of field and have more of the picture in focus. Keep trying, keep asking questions here and (I hate to say it) don't forget to read your manual.

Thank you very much NgaiHill. I will check the flickr account tonight when i get home, Yes it did have information I almost dropped to the floor when I uploaded the picture it told me the time and date I took the picture that was a lil scary.. Yes I probably was too close, i was practically standing on top of the hedge and still zooming in trying to get a crisp clear pic.. Yes I am trying to go through my manual had to reprint it off line since I misplace the original.. Thanks again
