Because you are using a point and shoot camera you are limited in what you can do. Does your camera have a macro setting (will look like a flower on the button)? Try using portrait mode as that might give you more DOF. Getting closer to the subject always works, in this case you can do a post processing crop to bring the focus more on the bird. Another trick you could use is to focus lock and then move the bird out of the center of the composition following the rule of thirds which you can also do with a post process crop. It is a pretty photo but I agree the flower draws my eye more then the bird.

This is one of the best shot I've ever seen..... The green bird together with the heart of the banana really amazed me......GREAT!
