Default Spring... in my onion bowl

Okay, so I got my DSLR back in December, and I've been lurking around the forums until recently. This is my first request for a critique.... But I'm here to learn, so feel free to brutally honest.

Snapped this one hand-held in my kitchen the other day. Used the stove lamp (under the microwave) for lighting. In terms of PP, I did a little sharpening and noise reduction in Camera Raw. I also bumped up the contrast and clarity, and I boosted the vibrance slightly (+20, I believe).

Day 35: 8 March 2011

My primary question is whether the depth of field works here. I wanted the green shoots to look like they're popping out of the bowl, relative to the rest. But did this cost me too much, as far as in keeping them sharp throughout? I definitely lost focus at the tips.

Of course, any other comments (composition? exposure? crop?) are much appreciated.

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS + Nifty Fifty
Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/1.8
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 400

My own personal opinion is that there isn't enough in focus. I like the composition a lot, but I really think I would like it better if just a bit more was in focus.

Thanks for the feedback. I was worried about that. I think it's a little too tempting to shoot wide open when you get your first fast prime.

The blooming onion is still alive (hopefully my roommate isn't irritated by it yet), so maybe I'll stop down a bit more and give this another go.
