Default Yellow Blue

Yellow Blue by Ellsworth Kelly, Empire State Plaza, Albany NY

Canon 5D
50mm - f/9 - 1/800 - ISO 200

I'm considering donating a print of this to an art sale fundraiser, so my main concern is whether or not anyone would actually want to buy it. I'll be printing this to 10x15", so it might be helpful to click through to flickr and view larger sizes, and I'd especially like to hear from anyone whose monitor is calibrated. General comments appreciated.

Crop it down so all you see are the colors. Get rid of the building on either side. You'll find that will make it much more interesting

I agree with the crop...
I love the red coat with the yellow and blue. Makes a nice artists color wheel representation.

Thanks, I did actually try a tighter crop already. I didn't end up with it for two reasons: I feel the trees add an organic element and removing them makes the overall image very harsh, almost brutal; and the symmetrical triangles of sky add visual interest outside of the center of the image.

I'll try a print of both a cropped and uncropped version though, I always have a different reaction once an image is printed. Thanks.

The yellow panel is covered in the shadows of branches which imo, makes the actual branches on the edges redundant. There are plenty of "organic" elements in these shadows, snow, and grass. The main idea of this appears to be the graphic elements of shape and color. Leaving the background buildings, trees, and sky just dilutes that idea. It also leaves a bit of a snapshotty look which may work against the goal of selling prints.
