Default Making the icicles the focus

I recently bought a Canon Rebel T1i (at the beginning of the month, though I had borrowed one several times in November and December before taking the plunge myself). We had an ice storm a few weeks ago (a rarity this far south), and I took this photo of some icicles on a shrub outside my house. I am fairly happy with the framing, but something doesn't feel right... Nothing stands out. I think it is due to the reflections and harsh light on the top and left sides of the picture. Are there any settings or changes I could have made to make this photo pop a little more?

You need some light on those icicles.
