I'm trying to figure out if this could be sharper? I had to use an ISO of 800 bc of low light and that is also why I used autofocus and not manual...plus no tripod. Maybe these are my problems exactly...not sure though...input would be greatly appreciated.

It doesn't look sharp, and it is not just a focussing issue as nothing is sharp..
It looks like your shutter speed is much too low hand holding. At 50mm without an image stabilised lens I would be shooting at 1/50 at least. With an IS lens I would not go below 1/15 second for consistent results..
