This is my first time posting a picture, I've been taking pictures as a hobby for a while and I read tons of books and sites on photography, I try to follow rules as much as I can. I took this picture indoors, low natural light from the window, I did clean up some luminance noise in LR, and boosted up a bit the exposure. Does it look too flat? I love the flower but is it lacking depth or something? is it a picture you would actually stop and look at?

Welcome to DPS! It's a great place to continue learning about all aspects of photography.
You have selected an appealing subject and you have the right idea for narrowing the viewer's focus to the blossom. However because the flower is partially cut off and the focus is soft (the clearest part of the image seems to be part of the leaf in front of the flower), it doesn't hold my attention the way it should. I think if you tried it again, making the flower the definitive focal point, it could be a strong image. I look forward to seeing more of your work! |

Well, the crop is a bit strange in that the main subject, the flower, is placed out at the edges of the frame and is partially cut off. However, I think the biggest issue for me is that there doesn't appear to be anywhere that is in focus.

The background behind the flower was a white wall, which looks blurred out but I thought that white over white was getting attention off the flower even more, that's why I cropped it that way, maybe I should try using a black fabric behind it and a wider depth of field, or try the flower alone. Thanks for your input!!! (although I have to wait for a new flower to bloom)
