Default Backlit leaves...

Camera Canon EOS 500D
Exposure 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture f/5.6
Focal Length 250 mm
ISO Speed 100
Exposure Bias 0 EV

I would like to know if I can change anything that would improve this pic.
Would a crop help? Is any sharpening/saturation change required? Basically anything that might help...

i like the composition and the black and green combination. i also like how the light has graduated on the leaves. but isn't the left side of the frame just blank and black? i am wondering how you could crop that tightly without sacrificing the RoT. Could you show me how?

Yes, that's the reason I posted this up for critique. I am not really sure how to crop it. Maybe experienced folk here might be able to help. I might try out something and post it if I get time...
BTW, what is RoT?

I'm thinking the other person was asking YOU how you cropped it that close (meaning got that close on the camera.) And my only guess on "RoT" was it was a typo for "DoF" (D and F keys shifted "up and to the right." Anything like "back and to the left"? And kudos for all those who caught that reference.) But if that's what the other poster meant, I'm still not sure why the question (you didn't really get that close camera-wise.)

Ohh
@cristen, it wasnt really that close to the camera. In fact, I was a good 10-12 feet from the leaves and took it at 250mm as can be seen from the exif

@prabbit, that was a good catch on the RoT

BTW ppl, would appreciate some inputs/critiques on the cropping...

I like the blank space on the left, it draws attention to the leaves, which i also like. The tone is good but i would probably sharpen it a little if it was my shot.

The only thing i will say is that i think there is too much room above the leaves. The bottom extends out of frame and you have plenty of room up top, it look a bit awkward.

I would crop it to remove some of the blank space left and bring the top down to meet the leaves.

Now the wording of the question makes sense. As to that, if you took the upper-left point of the 2/3's inner box and put it in the black area/V just above the brightest leaf, that would give a good cropping and remove some of the blank/dark area to the left.

Thanks for your inputs lonni!!
Actually I had tried some crops of this I think, but they looked a bit crowded with all those leaves and hence discarded them. I'll definitely try to crop as you suggested.

@prabbit, yes I'll be trying out different crops as you've suggested...
