Converted to black and white in Lightroom 3, upped contrast and some other minor adjustments.

Is there a way I could have improved this shot overall? Do you think the glimmer off the ornament is distracting or does it add to the overall composition? Any other crits are welcome.

I feel there are two problems.
(1) The image doesn't appear sharp overall.
(2) The fare on the top right hand side of the ornament is distracting.

The sparkle, on the left, is ok and I do like the composition.

I agree with your assessment. Not sure what happened in the resizing but this picture is tack sharp up close Could be the B&W conversion and the resize that messed with it. That flare in the upper right bugs me too, I could not decide if it detracted or added.
