Default Observing the fisherman

From For Critique

I want the picture that tell a story about a boy who is observing the fisherman in the morning. Unfortunately, the fisherman is far below...(5m?) and this is the best one that could tell it (I think). I tried shooting it a little far to the right and there is a city that I want to avoid. But if I took from the left then there will be more stuff in the picture like other people, car, tree...
Any suggestion to my situation? How could I do it better in the future?

I took it with Nikon D60, focal length 29mm, no flash, f/9, 1/320, ISO 100

Thanks,
Wis

With the explanation that guides the eye to the subject of the boy's view below, I really like this composition... a lot!

Sometimes one superficially and hurridly glances at a photograph, forgetting that it was not just a random capture but perhaps something planned with purpose by someone and with a specific intention.

In this case, the lucky observer with a little tenacity would have discovered the fisherman below and in doing so felt he/she had found a small treasure; as I do even with your explanation.

So, in respose to your question, maybe you couldn't have done better with this image if you had wanted to. Or if you had had the opportunity, maybe it wouldn't have turned out this good. Because I love the story this image tells, not only about the boy and his view of the fisherman, but also about the involvement viewers have, or choose not to have of images, in looking at what is in an image, rather than just glancing at it and expecting it to do all the work, so to speak.

This one is a real eye-opener for me. Thanks for sharing it!

I am amazed by the "eye" you possess, ChicagoJohn. For me, there was really nothing that caught my attention here in this photo... at first glance.

But reading further, I appreciate the pains that Wis took in composing the shot and it made all the difference.
