Default Mirrors, bricks, and ivy - B&W

I wanted to try a black and white photo (processed into B&W). I saw this ivy hanging on a brick wall and there were some wind chimes which had been covered by the growing ivy. I especially liked this one which has small mirrors attached to the wind catching thingy...

I'd like to have this one critiqued to find out what needs to be done to achieve a better B&W photo. Is it better to take the photo in B&W or better to get a full color to convert with software?

If you want B/W, always, always, always convert a full color to B/W! Don't use the B/W setting on the camera.

For this photo, I am confused what I'm looking at as far as the subject. Is it the ivy leaves? Or is it the little chime? A few of the ivy leaves appear to be in focus, and the chime is not.
