Default Clay Pot next to a Broom

So ! I posted this image on several ratting groups around Flickr and got bad scores for it - they say that the composition is bad and should take the photo from another angle to get a more pleasing image. I like the composition and, I will like to ask the people of this forum why my composition is not good ?

I'd go at this from a lower angle and from the other side. The wood is much higher on the one side and by shooting from the other direction you'd keep the photo more uniform.

Never just walk up to a scene and shoot. Analyze it. What would look the best? Where is the light coming from? Would this look better from a different angle?

OK, the raining day is over - so i got this shots - this time is a different lens because of the space limitation. Is this better or worse ?

well, we're back to watch your background dilemma. Notice all the extra entities in the background? A balcony, ladders, doors etc.
You need to plan for those things and do some either creative positioning of yourself so they cant be seen or if you can, physically move them

I admit that the background is a little bit cloudy - but ii can't clear-it, what do you see except the broom are heavy stuff - hard to move - and the space is very narrow - i tried to get the best from it. I know that the less is more but in this it must do with what I have.

What other suggestion to improve this shot u have? Maybe a narrow DOF, what do you say ?

I would definitely try a larger aperture, which would naturally blur the back ground. It might not clean it up perfectly but could help. I also would try a longer lens. Something closer to telephoto would likely blur the background more at similar aperture to what you have been using.

Based on what you've already shot, "broom 1" is, I believe, your most attractive composition. Play with it a little though. Lay on your stomach and shoot up, try and get above it if you can, or even shoot from the hip from random angles (sounds weird, but sometimes I get the coolest compositions that way )

Good Luck

I not sure I agree with journeybetween, I think that the first shot is the better one. I like the comp because you got the whole broom handle in the pic and the background is much less busy. I do agree with journeybetween that you should try to get the shot at different angles.
