Default Animal/person critque

Wasn't sure where to post this since it contains an animal and person. Any suggestions for me. I really like this photo but of course the shadows are pretty harsh because of the full sun we were shooting in. Any suggestions on editing or anything you would have done differently in terms of lighting issues. I appriciate all constructive feedback.

I love this shot and the poses! The crop is tight though I wish you captured the womans full upper body and the tip if the horses nose is cut off. Hopefully this is a crop and you have a wider angle? An off camera flash would work or an on cam flash pointed to a reflector to illuminate those shadows. I'm new to lighting so someone jump in if I'm wrong

Nice shot..Just a white poster board to bounce some fill would have helped...
In post I would use the "shadows/highlights" adjustment in PS...(see attached)
