Post Stepping into Big Shoes

I am new to shooting but I always shoot in Manual (PASM) mode. Please suggest any variation you think would have made the shot better, based on the EXIF data.

The lighting was extremely low and thats why I used Exposure compensation with 400 ISO. Didn't want to use 800 as I feel that would have added a lot of noise to the picture.

It was an impromptu shot and this is the best background that I could manage. But I would still appreciate some comments on the composition of the image.

EXIF Data:
Camera: Nikon D3000
F-Stop: f/5
Exposure Time: 1/8 sec
ISO: 400
Exposure Bias: +0.3
Focal Length: 35mm
Max Aperture: 4.7
Metering Mode: Pattern
Subject Distance: 1.4 m
Lens: 18-55mm

Talking about composition.. ? Well, looking at it .. I don't really understand what are you are trying to tell here. It seems too much floor to me.. try cropping out the floor.. maybe bring the frame higher.. show her hand perhaps, which is holding (?) the guitar..

I think...the title says all by itself, "Stepping into Big shoes." That is what I wanted to focus upon. Next time I would try out what you have suggested. I was just trying to follow the 2/3 rule. But maybe I shouldn't have followed the rule is your suggestion.

I agree with Wal on the floor. It doesn't add to the photo, instead it takes away from the focus on the shoes.
