Default Rainbow Cake

Rainbow Cake

Exif:
Camera Nikon D300S
Exposure 0.067 sec (1/15)
Aperture f/4.0
Focal Length 35 mm
ISO Speed 200

I'm trying to get into shooting food in a scene and this is my first attempt. I'd like critique on composition and lighting. I have a light w/ shoot through umbrella camera left.

Thanks!

I am just a beginner so I won't venture to comment on the technical aspect of it, other than to say that I like the lighting. But looking at it from the viewpoint of someone who might see it in a cooking magazine, I will say that the angle is a little distracting. I don't quite know what shape the cake is (wedge or square) and the fork seems at an odd angle. But that could just be me. Also the bottom of the image with the shelf (?) and the two glasses looks a little odd to me as well. But I like how you kept the scene simple and white as it really makes the colorful cake stand out as the focus of the photo. Nice job, probably much better than I could have done. (Did you make the cake? It looks really awesome!)

Ah! I made a rainbow cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday!! It was a big hit!
I think my only critique is the composition. I don't like the glasses on the bottom of the frame. It doesn't make sense to me.
Okay, I just wanted to share my daughter's cake because this cake is so near and dear to my heart. This is SOOC and I don't want to hyjack...so I'm just posting a link. My husband was cutting it and he didn't exactly know what he was doing!
