Default Playing with fire

Saw an example of this in "How I took it" and thought I would give it a go.
As a new photographer I would like all the advice I can get.
I was pretty happy with the result but took well over 50 shots to get it. Is this normal? Also a little PP to get the lighting right.
Does this seem like reasonable cropping/composition as the original was right in the middle.

I had to laugh..."Is this normal?" Try taking photos of a toddler on the go and see how many it takes you to get a good shot I find anything new takes more shots...just keep practicing. Hubby spent a couple of hours on water drops one day....

P.S. Guess I could comment on the actual photo! I like the comp..you could also choose to centre it portrait wise and leave lots of negative space on top. Depends on what you're going for...
