This is a picture i took on the first day of my 365. The topic was circles. My cousin's living room was the setting (she has great windows for natural light early in the day). it was overcast and there was great soft light coming from the windows (which were approximately 5 feet to the top and left of the subject in the photo).
When i took this picture i was not yet privy to the importance of using a tripod. if i had to do it again, that is one of the first things i would do differently. separate from that, i am not sure if using such a shallow depth of field is distracting to the viewer. the picture lacks...... pop. i think the concept is good and the lighting seemed good to me. f/1.8 shutter speed 1/50s autofocus on no flash iso 320 50mm |

Neat concept! I like the shot but I would like to see both of the tops of the bamboo in focus. A slightly larger f-number would do that while keeping your background blurred. Also, I think this might be more powerful in a square crop.

I like the concept of this photo a lot. I'd be interested to see what a closer shot would look like, if that's possible. Because right now the background is taking up the vast majority of the picture, and the bamboo seems small in the frame. But perhaps if more of the table is in focus it will look different?
