Hi all, would appreciate some feedback on this shot of Beetham Tower in Manchester, England. I've only recently started taking pictures and this is one of the few I like to think is reasonably decent. Given the opportunity to take this again i would definitely change the composition to have the tower further to the right of the frame, leaving out the building that is currently on the right.
However opinions/feedback on the composition or post processing would be much appreciated. Thanks! DSC_0214 Resized.jpg Nikon D3000 with 18-55mm 18mm 1/1600 s F/3.5 Photoshop CS5 |

Normally we want something, even in an image like this, to be plumb. It's OK if there are a lot of angles going different directions as long as our eye has at least one vertical by which to navigate. My thinking is that the vertical needs to be the side of the tall building nearest the center. Aside from that, this image has a great deal to reccomend it including a strong composition and interesting lighting.

Adam, "plumb" means being perfectly vertical. Think of a "plumb bob", basically a weighted string. When used properly, the string becomes perfectly vertical over a point on the ground.
I think what Lee is trying to say is that at least one edge of the center building needs to be as close to perfect vertical and you can get it. In your shot, the building looks like it's leaning. Other than that, I agree with Lee - great composition and use of light. I'm sorry if I stepped on your reply Lee or if I said the wrong thing. Feel free to correct me.
