Default advise on brightness and contrast

I've taken this artifact shot from the rooftop garden in orchard central level 12.
Is the picture too dark? Is it lacking of something? Please advice. Do provide feedback. Thanks!

Artifact

D90
Exposure 0.5
Aperture f/3.5
Focal Length 18 mm
ISO Speed 200
Flash off

This is a neat shot but, to be honest, it is confusing me. I just don't know what this is or what you were going for. It is kinda cool and I like how you've used lines and reflections in your composition. The lighting is not the best (the shadow in the front of the shot is distracting.) And the trees in the background really take away from the symetry. Would it have been possible to get lower an shoot up to eliminate the trees?

Thank you Lightwriter for the feedback!

I didn’t realize the distracting shadow, good idea and agree with you on the shooting from lower point. ^_^

It was a "wire man" climbing up the stairs, heading to the sky. I think the creator could be referring the concept of “one step at a time".
